THE SEVEN DAYS OF CREATION
Day 1: God created light, separating it from darkness to create day and night.
Day 2: God created the sky (firmament) to separate the waters above from the waters below.
Day 3: God gathered the waters to reveal dry land, naming them "land" and "seas," and created vegetation.
Day 4: God created the sun, moon, and stars to govern the day and night and mark seasons.
Day 5: God created sea creatures and birds.
Day 6: God created land animals and humanity (Adam and Eve) in His own image, charging them to rule over the earth.
Day 7: God rested from all His work, blessing and sanctifying the day.
Dad liked to quiz young people on the Biblical story of creation when they were looking at his paintings. “How many days of creation?” he would ask. “Seven” they usually replied. “Why are there only six paintings?” Quiet followed by silence. “What did God do on the seventh day?” Dad asked. “He rested,” someone would reply. Dad: “Yes — and that’s what I did too. I didn’t paint on the seventh day.”
These paintings are now a traveling exhibit of the Creo Arts Guild. If you would like to host this exhibit at your church, school, or organization — please call 513-673-9864 or email joe@schickel.org.
